1. Introduction & Core Privacy Philosophy

Welcome to CoupleZone ("we", "our", or "us"). We built CoupleZone under one fundamental premise: your relationship belongs strictly to you and your partner, and your personal data belongs to you.

Being in a relationship must never mean living under digital surveillance. We design every feature—from shared to-dos and synchronized calendars to intimate cycle tracking and relationship check-ins—with strict privacy-first defaults.

Our Core Privacy Commitments:

  • **Zero Data Selling:** We do not sell, rent, monetize, or trade your personal information, intimate notes, or wellness logs to advertisers, data brokers, or third parties.
  • **Private-by-Default Architecture:** Private notes, personal journal entries, and sensitive cycle logs remain visible **only to their creator** unless explicitly and affirmatively shared with your partner.
  • **Data Minimization:** We collect only the data strictly necessary to deliver seamless pair synchronization and relationship connection.
  • **One-Tap Emergency Disconnect:** You retain sovereign control over your data with our built-in Break-Up Protection Killswitch and instant account deletion tools.

    • This Privacy Policy explains how CoupleZone collects, uses, synchronizes, secures, and erases your information across our Android application and associated cloud sync infrastructure.

    2. Information We Collect

    A. Account & Profile Information

    When you create an account and set up your relationship profile, we collect:

  • **Authentication Credentials:** Email address, encrypted password hash (managed via Supabase Auth and Firebase Authentication), or Google OAuth identity tokens.
  • **Profile Attributes:** Chosen display name, partner's name, profile avatar photo (optional), anniversary date, relationship stage, and time zone.
  • **Pairing Information:** Randomly generated, single-use 6-character pairing codes and paired partner unique identifier (UID).

    • B. Shared Relationship Content

    When you and your paired partner collaborate within CoupleZone, we process and store:

  • **Tasks & Daily Schedule:** Shared to-do items, chore assignments, task priorities, due dates, reminder timestamps, and completion statuses.
  • **Couple Calendar:** Shared date plans, events, busy/free time allocations, and optional two-way device calendar synchronization markers.
  • **Connection & Interactive Play:** Daily Spark answers, Love Coupons created/redeemed, pocket hugs sent/received, Couple Dice roll outcomes, quiz answers, scratch tickets, bucket lists, and shared notes.
  • **Shared Memories:** Uploaded couple photos, milestone dates, memory captions, and celebration records.

    • C. Sensitive Health & Reproductive Wellness Data (Strictly Voluntary)

    CoupleZone offers an optional Period & Menstrual Cycle Tracking module. Because reproductive health is profoundly sensitive, it is governed by our highest tier of security:

  • **Data Collected (If You Choose to Log):** Baseline cycle duration, period flow length, start dates, flow intensity (Spotting, Light, Medium, Heavy), moods, physical symptoms (e.g., cramps, headaches, fatigue), energy rating (1 to 5), sleep hours, hydration, and private notes.
  • **Default Privacy Setting:** **Partner sharing is disabled by default.** Your partner cannot see that you are tracking your cycle unless you deliberately turn sharing on.
  • **Controlled Partner Snapshot:** When partner sharing is toggled on, your partner receives **only a high-level educational phase snapshot** (e.g., "Follicular Phase - High Energy") and supportive tips. **Raw flow logs, symptom entries, and personal wellness notes are NEVER shared with your partner.**
  • **Independent Erase:** You can delete all cycle and reproductive data at any time from within the app without deleting your couple account.

    • D. Device, Diagnostic & Usage Information

    To ensure app reliability, sync performance, and security, we automatically collect:

  • **Device Identifiers:** Device manufacturer, hardware model, Android OS version, app version code, and system language.
  • **Network & Diagnostics:** Approximate IP address (used solely for geolocation of security sign-ins and CDN routing; discarded), crash logs, latency, and performance metrics via Firebase Crashlytics.
  • **Push Notification Tokens:** Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) registration tokens used to deliver real-time notifications for tasks, hugs, and partner pings.

    • 3. How We Use Your Information

    We process your data strictly under lawful grounds (contract performance, explicit consent, and legitimate interests):

    1. Facilitate Consensual Pairing: Linking two verified partner accounts using private, single-use pairing codes.

    2. Real-Time Cross-Device Synchronization: Synchronizing shared tasks, calendar blocks, notes, and interactive games between paired devices via secure WebSocket and database channels.

    3. Algorithmic Cycle Insights: Calculating estimated cycle phases, fertile window estimates, and personalized wellness suggestions based purely on your inputted data.

    4. Push Notifications & Alerts: Sending notifications for partner pings ("Pocket Hugs"), assigned tasks, calendar events, and optional cycle reminders (with Discreet Mode enabled).

    5. Security & Stability: Monitoring app stability, preventing brute-force login attempts, diagnosing crashes, and enforcing our Terms of Service.

    6. AI-Assisted Inspiration: Generating custom date ideas, communication prompts, and constructive conflict resolution suggestions via Google Gemini AI through our strict Data Minimization Filter.

    4. Medical Disclaimer for Cycle & Reproductive Tracking

    **IMPORTANT MEDICAL NOTICE:**
    **CoupleZone is not a medical device, licensed medical provider, or clinical diagnostic tool.** All predictions, cycle estimates, fertile windows, and self-care tips generated by CoupleZone are algorithmic approximations provided strictly for lifestyle awareness and personal relationship connection.
    **CoupleZone MUST NEVER be used as a method of contraception, birth control, natural family planning, or clinical medical diagnosis.** Always consult an obstetrician, gynecologist, or qualified healthcare professional for medical advice, pregnancy planning, or reproductive health concerns.

    5. Android Device Permissions & Lawful Justification

    CoupleZone requests only runtime permissions essential to app functionality:

    `VIBRATE` | Standard | Delivers tactile haptic feedback for pocket hugs, dice rolls, and interactive mini-games.

    `INTERNET` & `ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE` | Standard | Connects to our secure servers to synchronize data in real-time between paired devices.

    You can grant or revoke optional permissions (such as Calendar access) at any time through your Android device's `Settings > Apps > CoupleZone > Permissions`.

    6. Discreet Notification Mode & Lock Screen Privacy

    To protect your personal dignity in public spaces, workplaces, or family gatherings, CoupleZone features an active Discreet Mode:

  • When Discreet Mode is active, push notifications on your lock screen and status bar replace sensitive medical or cycle terms (such as "Period starting tomorrow" or "Ovulation window") with neutral, private phrasing (e.g., *"CoupleZone has a wellness update for you"*).
  • Discreet Mode is enabled by default for all reproductive and cycle alerts.

    • Advertising: CoupleZone runs ads in the application. We may use Google AdMob to serve banner or interstitial advertisements. Advertising partners may receive limited device and advertising information needed to deliver, measure, and prevent abuse of ads. We do not use private notes, relationship content, photos, calendar data, or reproductive wellness data for advertising.

    7. Third-Party Subprocessors & Service Providers

    We partner only with vetted, enterprise-grade cloud service providers who comply with industry security standards (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, and DPDP Act):

    1. Supabase Inc. (Database & Real-Time Sync):

    - Hosts our PostgreSQL database with Row-Level Security (RLS) and real-time WebSocket transport.

    - All data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

    2. Google LLC (Firebase Services):

    - Firebase Authentication: Secure user identity management and Google Sign-In.

    - Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM): Encrypted push notification payload routing.

    - Firebase Crashlytics: Anonymized crash telemetry and fatal error reporting to ensure app reliability.

    3. Google LLC (Google AdMob):

    - Serves banner and interstitial advertisements to support our free service tier in compliance with Google Play Developer policies.

    - Privacy Boundary: No sensitive reproductive health data, private notes, relationship milestones, or partner names are ever transmitted to or shared with AdMob or advertising networks.

    4. Google Cloud (Gemini AI API):

    - Powers optional relationship features (e.g., date decider inspiration, communication advice).

    - Strict Data Minimization Pipeline: All requests pass through an automated client/server sanitizer that strips names, emails, private diary notes, cycle logs, and location data before sending prompts to the Gemini API.

    - No AI Training: Your relationship data is never used to train or fine-tune Google's foundational AI models.

    8. Data Security & Storage Architecture

    We apply defense-in-depth security principles across every layer of the application:

  • **Encryption in Transit:** All network communication between the mobile app, backend servers, and third-party APIs is encrypted using modern Transport Layer Security (TLS 1.3 / HTTPS / WSS).
  • **Encryption at Rest:**

    • - Server-side data stored in our databases is encrypted using AES-256 bit encryption.

    - Sensitive client-side cached data on Android is safeguarded using Android Keystore and EncryptedSharedPreferences.

  • **PostgreSQL Row-Level Security (RLS):** Database policies enforce strict cryptographic isolation. A user can only access records matching their verified authenticated UID or their confirmed partner's UID.
  • **Private Data Scopes:** Private notes and cycle logs are assigned a `PRIVATE_ONLY_ME` scope in the database, preventing query retrieval even by the paired partner's client.

    • 9. Break-Up Protection (Emergency Instant Disconnect)

    We recognize that relationships evolve, and personal safety or emotional well-being may require immediate separation:

  • CoupleZone includes an emergency **Break-Up Protection Killswitch** accessible in `Profile > Privacy & Data Shield`.
  • Activating Break-Up Protection **immediately and unilaterally:**

    • 1. Revokes partner access to your calendar, tasks, notes, photos, and cycle snapshots.

    2. Dissolves the pairing link between devices.

    3. Halts all mutual push notifications and real-time sync.

    4. Restores all shared views to private single-user state.

    10. Data Retention, Rights & Permanent Account Deletion

    A. Your Privacy Rights

    Regardless of your geography, CoupleZone grants you comprehensive control over your personal information:

  • **Right to Access & Portability:** You can view all stored data within the app and request an export of your information in a readable format (`Profile > Privacy & Data Shield > Audit / Export Data`).
  • **Right to Rectification:** You can update or correct your profile, tasks, and notes directly at any time.
  • **Right to Erasure of Health Data:** You can purge your entire menstrual cycle and reproductive history independently through `Period & Cycle > Privacy & Sharing > Delete All Cycle Data` without affecting your couple account.
  • **Right to Withdraw Consent:** You can revoke consent for AI processing, calendar synchronization, or partner cycle sharing at any time via in-app toggles.

    • B. Permanent Account Deletion (Google Play Store Compliant)

    We provide two straightforward, permanent methods to delete your account and all associated data:

    1. In-App Immediate Deletion:

    Navigate to `Profile > Privacy & Data Shield > Delete Account Permanently`. Confirming deletion instantly and irreversibly purges your account credentials, partner pairing, profile attributes, private notes, shared tasks, photos, and cycle logs from both your local device and our production cloud databases.

    11. Children's Privacy

    CoupleZone is designed exclusively for consenting adults in relationships. We strictly require users to be at least 18 years of age (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction).

    We do not knowingly collect, solicit, or maintain personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If we discover or are notified that an account was created by or contains personal data of a minor, we will immediately terminate the account and permanently delete all associated records.

    12. Regional Regulatory Compliance

    India — Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023

  • Data processing is conducted based on clear, affirmative consent for specified legitimate uses.
  • Data principals maintain full rights to access, correction, erasure, and grievance redressal through our designated Grievance Officer.

    • European Union & United Kingdom — GDPR / UK-GDPR

  • We process personal data under Article 6(1)(b) (Performance of a Contract), Article 6(1)(a) (Consent for optional features), and Article 9(2)(a) (Explicit Consent for special category reproductive health data).
